do88 Performance cooler for the intercooler system, designed for an easy drop-in fit into your BMW M2C/M3/M4 F8X
The S55 turbo engine that powers the BMW M2C/M3/M4 F8X uses a water-cooled intercooler mounted on top instead of a "regular" air-cooled intercooler. The coolant in this system has its own separate cooling circuit, consisting of two radiators connected in parallel and a pump. The larger of the two parallel radiators is positioned in front of the central cooling module, the second smaller one is located in front of the right wheel house.
Reducing the water temperature in this circuit is directly related to improved intake air cooling (lower IAT). For this reason, it is important to have high performance radiators in this system to maintain the lowest and most stable IAT possible during demanding driving. During all the tests we have carried out during the development of our entire range for the BMW F8X M2C/M3/M4, we have clearly seen how peak performance is directly related to IAT (Intake Air Temperature).
When designing our upgrade performance cooler, we started by 3D scanning the front area of our M3 Competition's central cooling module. This gave us an accurate 3D model of the available space to expand the core. Since this cooler is positioned in front of the central cooling module, we optimized the front face/thickness/fin specs to maximize cooling performance, but at the same time allow enough air to flow through for the other cooling components behind it. It is crucial to position one cooler in front of others and design with a systems approach, rather than optimizing just one part and overheating the others due to insufficient airflow.
Our final design is a 32mm thick single row core with multi-channel tubes. We have retained the OE style double pass flow layout which allows the coolant to pass through the core twice before exiting the radiator. Our design increases the core height by 166mm and the thickness by 5mm. Overall this gives a 48% increase in frontal area and a massive 75% increase in core volume.
These improvements, combined with our side-mounted cooler upgrade, resulted in a 5°C IAT reduction in our testing.
All this hard work results in a product that will, in one way or another, improve the performance of your vehicle, whether it's a standard car or a heavily modified monster! On the track, on the street, on the racetrack, this cooler will be your true companion!
Significant advantages of the do88 cooler (comparison figures to the original):
- Larger core volume: 8498cm3 (4843cm3), 75% larger!
- Larger front area: 2656cm2 (1794cm2), 48% larger!
- Lower aftercooler air temperature under the same conditions: 34°C (39°C), 5°C lower! *
- Highly efficient core material with 7 mm fin height in multiple fin design.
- Multi-channel core tubes.
* Measured at 240km/h during full throttle acceleration 0-240km/h on the air track. Both tests were conducted on the same day under the same conditions.
