do88 performance intercooler to throttle body J-pipe for easy installation in your BMW M2 / M3 / M4 F8X
The S55 twin-turbo engine that powers the BMW M2C/M3/M4 F8X is equipped with plastic intercooler pipes on both the hot and cold sides. These pipes are a weak point on any tuned car, or in some cases even a stock tune. The OE plastic pipes often crack/split, leaving you with a leak in boost pressure.
With our performance intercooler J-pipe we aim to offer a solution to the reliability problem and of course at the same time minimize the limitations by improving airflow!
To get an accurate 3D model of the space available for designing our intercooler pipe, we did a detailed 3D scan of our M3 Competition engine bay. Using this 3D scan model, we were able to create a new 3.5” (89mm) cast J-pipe with nice, smooth routing. Most aftermarket J-pipes on the market are made from mandrel-bent 3” pipes that have been cut and welded in multiple places to achieve the J-shape. The OE J-pipe is 3.3” (85mm) so it is clear that a 3” version is not ideal in terms of airflow, which was also confirmed in our Superflow flow dyno.
Our final design is a super durable 3.5” (89mm) cast J-pipe that improves airflow. It has a free form, equal diameter down to the throttle body, which is “impossible” to achieve with a mandrel bent pipe. Our J-pipe has two methanol injection ports (1/8-27 NPT) that are plugged when shipped. A more durable silicone hose is also included, along with matte black hose clamps for a clean, unobtrusive look. A new C-clip is included to secure the J-pipe to the throttle body, instead of the unstable OE plastic retaining clip.
Significant advantages with the do88 performance intercooler J-pipe:
- Improved reliability!
- 6061 aluminum instead of plastic
- Stainless steel throttle body C-clip
- Matt black silicone hose coupler included
- Up to X% better airflow!
- 2x 1/8-27 NPT ports that can be used for methanol/nitrous injection or as a vacuum port connection for pressure gauge. Blanking plugs are included!
